Betting can be so addictive and some have ended up making it a full time job. The hope for overnight fortunes based on sheer luck can be palpable and end up stupefying a good number of bettors. For instance, if by chance, you walk into any cybercafes in towns, especially Nairobi, you will be astonished.

You’ll first imagine that the many youths busy on the computers have something great going on only to realize that its about analyzing teams for bets. Its gotten too bad that some youths have completely lost themselves and never want to seriously pursue any other gainful jobs. In short, they’re lazy and completely submitted themselves to luck.

No one denies that the Kenyan economy is on the rocks. Needless to mention the high unemployment rates as well. But, does betting suffice for unemployment? Ask yourself if it’s sustainable enough for a full-time job. Weigh your wins and losses before you turn the fun bit of it into addiction. Else, it will ruin your financial future and push you to suicidal thoughts.

Winning versus losing in Kenyan Sports Betting

Truth of the matter is sports betting has become so popular in Kenya. This is one lucrative business where winners earn millions and the bookmakers still hit billions. Even if it is so, the bitter truth remains that there are more losers compared to winners.

So to say, betting operates like the insurance schemes where so much is collected from a vast majority of subscribers with the realistic assumption that only a handful will eventually win. So the company gets its cut, lucky winners smile to the bank yet so many bettors remain wallowing in despair of lost stakes.

The predictions and oods allocation for games on various platfiorms follwo intelligent mathematical processes. Not so many people can crack the whole list of considerations that go into gving odds which then means bettors largely luck in darkness with the only hope of winning at the end of the day.

Aside from the complex mathematics of probability that works behind odds allocation for sports betting, disgusting reports odds manipulations keep making the game unattractive. It is business as usual, and yeah, bookmakers must just benefit more than the player should. To balance everything, the aspect of big winners to big losers must be. So, bettors should note that before they’re drowned into it.

Players on the other hand have developed a taste for easy money. People want to sleep poor and wake up millionaires by dawn. It is also sad how some bettors use their hard-earned money just to lose it on bets.

Furthermore, the hope of recovering previously lost money never stops until the dream turns into reality. Now the bitter truth is that such dreams may never come true. Those that count themselves unlucky by making many loses rather than win, don’t even hesitate. They stopped betting like yesterday.

Gambling addiction in Kenya

Betting is one particular field that if not disciplined at, you’re creating a 1000 ways to die. Don’t get it wrong. No one is against betting here. If anything, many have become wealthy through it. One thing is for sure though. It takes one out of ten million to win it big like Gordon Ogada and the rest.

Moreover, only a few punters will accept being addicted. The majority are compulsive bettors but they don’t even seem to know it. To them, fanatic bettors of high rollers, let’s say spenders of thousand shillings or more deserve such names. Little did you know your fifty-hundred shillings wagered daily gets you to the club of addicts?

To know you are a victim, take time to assess your betting habits. Ask yourself if you are the type that feels betting is overwhelming yet can’t stop. Also, know what people around you say about your betting pattern. Luckily, many have realized they’re compulsive bettors and have deserted it. They seem not ready to bear the negative consequences of betting addiction.

Overcoming betting addiction

Emotional Distress in Betting

The moment you hear of gambling effects, the first to spring into your mind is financial worries. You will also think of relationship difficulties, which are all true. But one thing everyone forgets is the emotional distress brought by betting.

When you win a bet, you’ll be happy. On the flipside, regret and little guilt kick in when you’ve lost your big-time wager. Especially at a time when your instinct lied to you that you’d win. Without noticing directly, you will feel down, and unhappy. Isn’t that mental disturbance already?

Don’t wait for angels to descend to remind you of what you are getting into. Other advanced problems like depression, anger and relationship conflicts will come in their numbers. Many opt to quit betting early enough to avoid the aftermath drama and emotional stress that follows.

Betting makes it hard to enjoy normal life as well as things

Although people may not know, betting is a stimulating activity. It does generate a hit in the adrenaline and dopamine. Besides, it is an addictive activity that will make you want to keep trying so that you can make more wins. The fact that you keep repeating the activity means that your brain will have a new  norm.

Furthermore, betting will make you preoccupied. You will stay in your phone or even computer for hours. Thus, the issue will make it difficult for you to stay in the present. Do you know that this will affect your family? Yes it will be, because at times, they may talk to you yet your mind is thinking about the bet you placed.

Betting driving some women out of their marriages

At first when Kenyan women complained of betting addiction as number, two, on the list of reasons for divorce. People laughed it off and thought it was a joke. Of course, infidelity tops the list because these sons of the East can’t just keep their pants zipped.

Gambling brings financial constraints to a relationship. We all know how because if you sleep, talk and think of nothing better than betting. You are deep into trouble with your finances.

For one, you won’t be saving money and even fending for your family becomes daunting. Again, you may find yourself in alcoholism thus marital conflicts. Another likely habit is overindulgence in borrowing just to bet.

Don’t be fooled by her speech of “for better …for worse on the altar”. That was then. In reality, Kenyan women dislike broke men. It’s understandable if you lost a job or something. For betting, she will warn you once twice and next, will be packing her bags to leave. If it were you, could you choose her to gambling?
